Who is still Canadian-owned

Ownership, not pricing. What you pay depends on your own statement.
RBC and BMO are selling Moneris to Francisco Partners, a San Francisco private-equity firm; the company stays Canadian, the ownership does not. For a Charlottetown merchant there is a second question underneath that one, and it is older than the sale: what does the bill look like in the months when nobody is buying anything?

Ownership, not pricing. What you pay depends on your own statement.
Prince Edward Island's visitor trade is concentrated into a short summer, and a great many Charlottetown merchants take the bulk of their card volume inside it. The rate on that volume gets all the attention. The fixed side of the bill — monthly minimums, terminal rental, statement and compliance fees — is what keeps arriving in February when there is nothing going through the terminal to spread it across.
For a seasonal business the fixed line items can matter more than the percentage. They are also the easiest part of a statement to read, and the part most worth comparing before you sign anything.
This is the practical advice for anyone comparing processors on the Island. A comparison built on a single month flatters whoever chose the month. Send a peak month and an off-season month, and ask for both to be priced.
RKP Atlantic will go through a Moneris statement line by line at no charge and no obligation, and showing them both ends of your year is the only way the exercise tells you anything true. Bring the summer months as well if a large share of your cards are issued outside Canada — those cost more to accept, and a tourism-season merchant carries more of them than a headline rate suggests.
RKP Atlantic Business Services is 100% Canadian-owned, based in Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick, and supplies Nuvei merchant accounts and Nuvei-certified PAX terminals to merchants across Canada, Prince Edward Island very much included. Nuvei is Montréal-founded and still founder-led; it was itself taken private in November 2024 in a deal led by Advent International of Boston, though its Canadian shareholders — Philip Fayer, Novacap and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec — hold roughly 54% between them. Moneris after closing has no Canadian ownership left.
Honest caveat: no rates on this page, because a rate without your statement is a guess. RKP Atlantic also supplies Elavon and Fiserv's Clover, both American-owned — Nuvei is the Canadian-majority option, so ask for it by name. And ask what on-site attendance looks like on the Island specifically, before you sign.
