RBC and BMO are selling Moneris outright to Francisco Partners, a private-equity firm headquartered in San Francisco, for about C$2.0 billion. The company stays in Canada. The ownership does not. If your terminal sits on a counter in Moncton, here is what that changes and what it does not.

RKP Atlantic Business Services is based in Grand-Barachois, about half an hour east of Moncton, and is a member of the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce. For a Moncton merchant that is not a sales territory drawn on a map somewhere else — it is a half-hour drive down the coast.
The practical difference is who turns up. The person who quotes you is the person who installs the terminal, and the number on the quote, 506-870-8499, reaches Ron or Kathy — the owners — seven days a week. There is no telemarketing floor and no cold-calling desk behind it.
RKP Atlantic is an ISO supplying Nuvei merchant accounts and Nuvei-certified PAX terminals to merchants across Canada. In Moncton's case the supplier happens to be down the road. Nuvei was founded in Montréal in 2003 by Philip Fayer, who still runs it as chair and chief executive from Montréal.
Nuvei is privately held too. It was taken private in November 2024 in a deal led by Advent International, a Boston firm, and you should hear that here rather than find it later. The difference is who is left on the cap table: Fayer at roughly 24%, Novacap at roughly 18% and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec at roughly 12% hold about 54% between them — a Canadian majority, with the founder still in the chair. Once the Moneris sale closes, Moneris has no Canadian ownership left at all.
There are no rates on this page, because a rate quoted without your statement is a guess. Card mix, average ticket and how much of your volume is tapped in person all change the answer, and they are different for a Main Street restaurant than for a trades business invoicing by phone.

If the ownership of the processor is the thing you care about, Nuvei is the one to ask about by name. And the half-hour drive is a Moncton fact, not a national one — ask what on-site attendance looks like wherever your counters actually are.
