Newfoundland keeps its own half-hour offset, so St. John's is thirty minutes ahead of Atlantic time and an hour and a half ahead of Toronto. Your morning starts before your supplier's does. That matters less than it sounds for a processor, and more than it sounds for support.
RKP Atlantic is in Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick, on Atlantic time. The part that actually helps is not the offset, it is that the owners answer the phone seven days a week — which is what you need when a terminal stops on a Saturday in December and the alternative is a ticket queue.
Whoever you sign with, ask what happens when hardware fails. On the Avalon that answer involves shipping, not a van, and the honest range is days rather than hours. Ask for the replacement turnaround in writing, ask whether a spare terminal can sit in the back room, and compare that answer across suppliers — it is a real cost of doing business here and it rarely appears on a rate sheet.
RKP supplies Nuvei-certified PAX terminals and will quote and support them in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its office is in New Brunswick, not on the Avalon; hold it to the logistics question the same way you would hold anyone else.
The sale is expected to close by the end of RBC and BMO's first fiscal quarter of 2027, subject to approval under the Retail Payment Activities Act and clearance under the Competition Act. After that, Moneris has no Canadian ownership remaining. Nuvei, founded in Montréal in 2003 and still run from there by its founder, was taken private in November 2024 in a deal led by Advent International of Boston — but Philip Fayer, Novacap and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec together hold roughly 54%. That is the distinction, stated plainly rather than sold.
