MadeIn Scan

MadeIn Scan privacy policy

Effective October 25, 2026

Who we are

MadeIn Scan (the Android and iOS app, and this website's MadeIn Scan pages) is operated by EnAffaire Technologies Inc., a New Brunswick corporation, 105-69 Cap Bimet Blvd., Grand-Barachois, NB E4P 6X5, Canada. Questions about privacy: ron@enaffaire.com or 506-870-8499.

The short version

What reaches our server

Barcode lookups. When you scan or type a barcode, the app sends that barcode number to our server to find the product. We do not attach anything that identifies you. To check our product data, our server asks Open Food Facts about the barcode; only the barcode number is sent to them, never anything about you.

Label reports (only if you send one). If you use "Snap the label", the app sends the barcode, the country you confirmed and the type of wording ("Product of", "Made in", and so on). It also sends a random number created when the app was installed, so the same phone can't report the same product twice. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of that number and of your internet address, used to limit abuse. Reports are kept so other shoppers can see them; they contain nothing that identifies you. Reports are stored only by us and are not sent to Open Food Facts.

Server logs. Like any website, our web server and our network provider, Cloudflare, record technical information about requests (internet address, time, page or address requested, browser or app type) to keep the service secure and working. Our server logs are deleted after about five weeks.

Questions you send us. If you use the "Ask a question" form or the chat on our website, we receive what you write and the contact details you give, and use them only to answer you.

What stays on your phone

Your last 50 scans (barcode, product name, brand, picture address and origin) and your language choice. Delete them anytime in the app (History โ†’ Clear history) or by uninstalling it.

Where information is stored

Our server is hosted by Hetzner Online in Germany, and requests pass through Cloudflare's network. Information may therefore be processed outside Canada, where it is protected by our providers' security measures but may be accessible under those countries' laws.

Children

MadeIn Scan is a general-audience shopping tool. It is not designed for children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you can ask what information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we don't know who you are, write to ron@enaffaire.com with the barcode of any product you reported and roughly when, and we will remove matching reports.

Product data and credits

Product information comes from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License (ODbL); product images are under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. If a change would ever involve collecting more information, the app will ask you first.
